Andy: the following may also offer you inspiration.

**********************

A bunny rabbit is sitting outside its hole, typing industriously on its laptop.

A fox comes by. “Hello, Bunny Rabbit,“ says the fox, its mouth watering. “What are you doing?”

“I’m completing my doctoral thesis” replies the bunny.

“What is it on?”

“How bunny rabbits dominate the forest ecosystem” comes the reply.

The fox rolls over, laughing. “That is the most ridiculous thesis I have ever heard” it gurgles.

“Well,” says the rabbit, calmly. “To understand the basis for my research you will have to read the first chapters of my thesis. They are on the table in my study, down in the burrow. Feel free to go and look.”

“I will,” replied the fox. “Then I will come back and show you personally who really dominates the forest ecosystem.”

Still snorting, it disappears down the rabbit hole. The bunny carries on with its laptop.

After a while, the fox not having reappeared, a wolf wanders by. “What are you doing, Bunny Rabbit?” it asks.

[At this point duplicate the dialogue with the fox, ending with the wolf going to check the thesis. Repeat with other predators ad lib.]

After another interval a bear emerges from the burrow, picking fox and wolf fur out of its teeth. “The first two chapters are very good” it growls. “Hardly any need for revision. I’ll be back tomorrow for the next chapter.”

And the moral is: when writing a thesis, it pays to have the right supervisor.
