I agree with Andrew; [I usually do] in that if you are replicating something that is good, by all means make an accurate replica. I'm sure that the D&G was only used because the boys had no access to anything better. A better replacement [as opposed to replica] would be the Block Island Cowhorn, a tradtional double-ended boat built by the pioneers of the Massacusetts region to sail in some pretty unfriendly waters. It would also save on anyone re-inventing the wheel. Lines drawings can be found in Roger Taylor's "Good Boats". A cabined version was built called "Roaring Bessie", and Plilip Rhodes did an adaptation of it for his "Dog Star". All of these are also shown in "Good Boats".
