I'm just going through Nevil Shute's books again, and finding them quite as good as I did last time. Many of them (A Town Like Alice, The Far Country, On The Beach, and Requiem For A Wren come to mind immediately) are set partly in Australia, and any of you lesser breeds without the law who'd like to learn more about Oz and its culture could hardly find a less painful way of doing so than by reading them.

We ran a thread here on Shute (pictured above) a year or so back, but unfortunately I don't have a reference to it. Maybe you could help, Ian?
