“Squashed fly" biscuits (although we call them cookies) were a staple for us growing up in New England. I'm trying to remember the brand. Haven't seen them in a while, but I haven't really looked. They were a favorite for afternoon sails since they retained their structure under duress (flung from side to side beating against a stiff breeze). They appear to be roughly the same as Arnott’s “Full of Fruit” in Australia.

I'm surprised, John, that your wife doesn't know about them, but then it is interesting how much regional variation there is in products in the US.

As an example, Nabisco tried to discontinue their Crown Pilot Crackers a few years back, but a strong uprising in New England, and particularly in Maine, changed their mind. A descendent of hardtack, pilot crackers are indispensable with chowder, especially warmed and served with butter. New England is the only place in the States, I believe, where you can buy them.
