Where's Wizard?

I've just been re-reading Secret Water, and I noticed something in one of the illustrations that seemed a bit strange to me. I've not had very much sailing experience, so forgive me if this is a silly question, but when a yacht is towing a dinghy, wouldn't you tow it behind the yacht? If so, I'm rather puzzled by the illustration "On the Way to the Islands" (page 29 in my Red Fox paperback, page 39 in my hardcover edition). I see the Goblin, but where's Wizard? At first, I thought that the tow-rope must be rather long, and that Wizard was just out of sight to the right, but on closer inspection I can't see any tow-rope from the Goblin. Did AR just forget to draw in the Wizard? The only other possibility I can think of is that Wizard is made fast somehow to Goblin's starboard side, and is being towed like that, but it doesn't seem like a very good way to tow a boat to me (again, forgive my ignorance if I'm wrong about this).
