Well said, Joy. It is a fallacy (propagated sometimes on Tarboard) that AR's works only appeal to 'right-wing empire-builders'. This is based on a mis-reading of the underlying philosophy of AR. The point eg, about the 'mapping' operation in SW was the communal enterprise of the children rather than a desire for land acquisition. OK, admittedly, many left-wingers would challenge this view, but the point is - they must have read the books!
