For a look at the other end of the bird/animal capture/export tradgedy, read Tim Severin's "Spice Islands Voyage", in which he retraces the work of Alfred Russell Wallace, the naturalist who gave Charles Darwin the idea of Natural Selection. This details the capture and trading in rare birds and animals such as monkeys which is happening now in Indonesia.
