This is the note I forwarded the OED. The use of the Board as a capitalized word was delibrate, as this Board is almost a living breathing entity.

Dear Sir or Madam:

The Arthur Ransome Society has a bulletin board where the life and times and politics of this English author are discussed and dissected endlessly. I will not bore you with the endless details of train schedules from 1933 and such interesting questions as "did Dick go to Shrewsbury or some other private school?".

However, the Board has been discussing the word Turmot. It is the Manx word for turnip and is also almost identical to the turnip dialects terms noted in the turnip reference in the OED - on line version. Turmit Turmet and Turmat

I would suggest that AR in using the term Turmot deserves a place in the turnip section or as word on its own.

Thank you for listening.
John Nichols
