I would have thought it unlikely that in the 1930s an English village Police Constable would have come from anywhere but the immediate locality. Mr Tedder's vocabulary and manner of speaking have always appeared to me quite Norfolk - even though he has by no means as strong a dialect, at least when speaking officially, as many people in rural Norfolk had until quite recently.
