I totally agree with you with regards to "It’s not ‘intellectualism,’ it’s just Ransome enthusiasm, even if we do get a bit carried away sometimes." but thankyou Ed for interupting this thread as I think this was getting more than "a bit carried away" - I enjoy Ransome becase I as a 'simpleton' can understand it and I would NOT like to anybody be put off Ransome because reading and discussing the books seems to form a clique.... I read this board daily and enjoy it, and rarely comment as most threads seem to be level-headed, but I do think that this thread may be a bit too far for those who may have come to this baord for the first time. If the 'jokes' were explained then it woul be an eduction in the trueist Ransome way, but to leave 'one fumbling in the dark' makes ne feel worse than Dick in a boot locker.
