The pictures of the Swallow shown in Captn Flints trunk shows AR holding the sheet in his hand as he shows in the drawings in SA, SD and PM. I find it hard to believe that one could hold 100 sq ft or 10 square metres of sail. But that is what the photograph shows - there is no doubt.

The boat in the SA movie had a more conventional system with a rope traveller on the stern, and a sheet that came from the boom to hand and not to the keel and then up as is more common now.

The travellor I was referring to was the mast traveller, Mike Field sent me a sketch - which I will put on my web site as soon as I have a minute.
