Open discussion for all - what do you think would be the most appropriate grades/ages for reading Ransome?

As we're talking about WH, I've just looked at my copy and it's a 1948 edition, meaning I must have read it first when I was eight. At the time it felt like a bit of a wedge (they all did- those Cape editions were real doorstops for children's books) but it was always easy to understand the story, and the luminous clarity of the English makes them good for children to read at whatever age. I'd say eight ot nine would be absolutely fine, but you'd need to catch them before they start to demand Star Wars- or whatever wordwooze is in with kids these days.
