If you go to word and look in the help file there is an explanation to the Kincaid stuff including the application.
i use the stuff to check my writing and I end up at about Grade 12. The book says for the usual person "iq - 100" one should aim at ablut Grade 8 level. If AR is writing at Grade 4.4 that is really good writing when you consider the words he uses. I think from the evidence that AR writes for upper primary year 4 to 6.
