Context is also important in decoding unknown messages. If we had seen the words "jduge" and "jruy" in a sentence before the above, then we would probably read it as "trial". If we had seen "hunod" or "floolw" we might conclude "trail".
The decoding of many formerly lost languages such as Ancient Egyptian or Sumerian depends on the recognition of context. The Rosetta Stone helped in the translation of Ancient Egyptian because it gave meaning and context to an otherwise meaningless passage, not because it gave a direct translation. You may be able to read a foreign language but still not know what it means.
