The first Canadian Governor-General I can remember is Lord Viscount Alexander, a much-decorated British war hero. Then we had a member of the Canadian elite Massey family, and so on down the social ladder to the present occupant of the G.G.'s residence, who was a journalist before she assumed her present occupation. The fact that she is member of a "visible minority" must have helped too. When she realized she had been selected for the position, she hurriedly married the man she was living with to appear respectable. Odd that she nourish that ambition, when she was appointed by the Prime Minister, a man who claims to be a Catholic, yet who whole-heartedly supports abortion and same-sex "marriages." Whatever your views on those two subjects, his attitude does smack of hypocrisy.
