Dear Mike:

The three things I like about J K Rowlings are 1. She has created a mystical world and given the English language a whole lot of new and interesting words and concepts. 2. I can not for the life of me get my 8 year old daughter to read Wind in the Willows or Alice and I try hard. She just does not like them. But she will read JK. She is eight repetetive language does not hurt at that age, and I can at least share it with Charlotte. 3. When you are flying from Houston to Calgary to Vancouver to Hawawii and then OZ you need a long book to break the trip and take your mind of the boredom. A short novel does not do it, but JK can pass the time, admitting that it is not the best time of my life, flying United with out a book to read is many times worse.

There is also the economic effect of JK. She raised overall sales of books in the world in June, not just her book but the books parents bought as they browsed whilst the children queued. I bought three books the day I bought JK for the plane and the kids.

Also several hundred million children voted with their wallets and minds. Who are we to judge. And I have read a lost worse than JK.

So on balance I say again who is Harold when he is home.

John
