Yes, Alaska is the largest state of the United States (in terms of area). Texas was the largest state until Alaska became a state. Texas remains the largest state in the contiguous "lower 48" states; Alaska doesn't actually touch any other state (nor does Hawai'i).

The King Ranch is a very famous and very large ranch in Texas, and clearly the Texan who purchased the Australian spread and subdivided it named the King Ranch in Australia after the one in Texas.
