Sorry Jonathan - wrong Big Five.
The real Big Five, as Dorothea explains, "are the greatest detectives in the world. They sit in their cubby-holes in Scotland Yard and solve one mystery after another."
The only referenceto them I've come across - a fleeting one - is in Police at the Funeral by Margery Allingham, one of the Big however-many-it-is lady detective novelists to have escaped Andrew's attentions.
I've always (at least since I discovered this a couple of years ago) thought she was a vey appropriate writer for Dot to be familiar with.
