I'm going to be a pain here - how can you compare the two? To me Big Read have just lumped them together because they are 'childrens books'. What will they do next - compare a Jane Austen with a Dorothy L Sayers because they are both written by women?
And the pain - well, I don't think I would vote for SA over Wind in the Willows; not without a lot of thought. And I certainly wouldn't vote for SA out of some sort of loyalty to AR. This is what is wrong with the whold concept of the Big Read, you just cannot have a best book.
