My referenced note regarding darkroom procedures specified the chemical used to create the third "bath" of chemical that processes a print or film as being sodium hypochlorite - which is essentially a chlorine bleach (Clorox) - this not being correct.
A statement from KODAK:
http://www.kodak.com/global/en/consumer/education/lessonPlans/darkroom/meeting2.shtml
"After development, the undeveloped silver halide crystals in the emulsion must be removed to keep them from darkening and obscuring the image. This "fixing" is done by treating the emulsion in a solution of SODIUM or AMMONIUM THIOSULFATE. Either forms a soluble compound with the silver halide, but has practically no effect on the silver image under normal conditions."
Sorry for the incorrect chemistry. So this was done some 55-60 years ago, and certain technical details have become a bit blurred.
It was fun trying to recall those delights of yesteryear.
