A similarity in the U.S.--but not an equivalent to S&A--were the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew stories of the late '20s and on. The main characters were certainly better off than many, drove motorcycles and cars, attended social functions, lived on the "right side of the tracks," etc.

Per previous threads, these characters did exhibit some, albeit limited, interest in the opposite sex but they were older than the S, A and D folks.

By the way, have any of the Board's analysts made anything out of the acronym for AR's characters? SAD?
