RP:

I get ribbed about my accent all the time by my wife.

She says that I do not have the harsh accent of America and that I have a soft accent.

I suppose because I travelled a lot when I was 10 - 13 and heard a lot of accents I really do not hear them at all now. Someone has to have a pretty thick accent for me to pay attention to it now. The interesting thing is when you are with someone who has not travelled and they hear a strange accent often I am asked what did they say and I just think - what they said was obvious but often it is not.

My 8 year old daughter after seeing the Harry Potter movie can do a brilliant English accent pretty close to RP.

Nancy would have used the RP accent purely because that is what she would have heard growing up - it was the boaridn school accent here parents and Jim would have used. It is not snobbery it is merely fact.

The worst accent is a Manchester accent, we had a guy in our Sydney office and everyone thought he was German, I found that after a year of talking to him on the phone for several hours a day he sounded just like the average languange I hear.

Interesting. I wonder why my brain hears them as similar.

Ach.. man hand me a beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeer.
