Books about the British defeat at Singapore 1942 have pictures of Admiral Tom Phillips, Wavell etc in shorts. I don’t know if Phillips who went to see Admiral Hart and General MacArthur in Manila in December 1941 (before he went down with the Prince of Wales & Repulse) wore white shorts then though!
