There's a favourable review of Rodney Dingle's book on ROGER by Fiona Haughey in the current issue of MIXED MOSS (as well as an absolute stunning article on shortened novels by members of Tarboard - thanks Adam!). The book covers Altounyan's childhood (including the importance of Ransome in his life), the family background in the hospital in Syria, his medical training, work, marriage and family. Some rather devastating material about the experiments Altounyan, who had asthma, carried out on himself in his search for a treatment. Also, you will of course remember Ransome's Roger's liking for chocolate? The real Roger was forbidden at one time in the hope this would alleviate his asthma symptoms!
