Diagrams of the "Swallow" and the "Amazon" were
published in the book "Nancy Blackett: Under Sail wiht
Arthur Ransome" by Roger Wardale, printed 3 or 4
years ago. The parts are not labeled, nor is there
any discussion at all in this book about these
diagrams or where they came from.

Find a sailor and he or she can explain the terms
for you. S&A and Swallowdale are in fact good
primers on good boat handling.

For more details about the "Swallow" and "Amazon",
so far as I am able to determine, see my article
"Building a Second Swallow" at the world wide web
address listed here. It about 50 k bytes and I am
told takes some time to copy overseas from Oregon.
This article assumes the reader is wide awake since
it gets a little technical for those who are not
already sailors. But it is intended for those
who are not sailors but who are inspired by
Ransome's books to become sailors, and even more
for those who want to build a boat like the
Swallow or Amazon. There is some general advice
on learning to sail, as well.
