Perhaps Peter H or someone else can clarify something.

My understanding was that the Altounyan's and Ransome sailed in two boats Swallow and Mavis. Ransome took ownership of Swallow and Mavis remained with the Collingwoods. When Ransome wrote his story, "Swallows and Mavises" didn't seem a very appropriate title so he changed the name of the dinghy in the story to Amazon.
Later when the Mavis was donated (or on a permanent loan or whatever the legal term may be) to the Museum as the prototype of the fictional Amazon they decided to re-name the Mavis to Amazon because no one would be very interested in going to see a boat called Mavis.

So what is the argument?
