The "i" word I suppose is immigrants. Well, there's no way anyone should keep them out. After all, my mother and I were immigrants to Canada, I hate to think what Canada would be like without the immigrants. By the way, Lawrence, I realize most parts of the U.K. are still unspoiled. It was just visiting Poole again and seeing how it had changed that bothered me a bit. We drove down the M6 amd the M5 from the Lake District to Cheltenham and were deeply impressed by the rolling landscapes, the woods, etc. with hardly a glimpse of those dark satanic mills. In fact, we hardly noticed we were passing Manchaster and Birmingham, so bright and fair was the weather and the countryside. It struck me all over again that England is one of the - maybe the most beautiful - cultivated country in the world. It spells security, comfort and continuity in the way that most other countries in the world have missed - including Canada. And no, Lawrence, I don't begrudge poor people from having a share of the material goods of this life. It's their country too, so why shouldn't they enjoy it?
P.S. Still don't see why you can't talk about immigrants.

John
