One thing you must take into consideration if driving in the UK is the horrendous cost of petrol. My husband worked it out at US$3.60 per US gallon. On the good side, hiring a car in advance can be relatively cheap but we paid approximately US$30 per day which is not too bad compared with NZ rates. All this was in 2001 - it may have changed but I doubt it will be any cheaper.
