To be really technical, 'The Tube' refers only to the deep lines of the system, stemming from the Edwardian nickname of the Central Line, 'The Tuppenny Tube' The Metropolitan, District and Circle Lines, comstructed by the cut and cover method are correctly called 'The Underground'.
