The D’s are mentioned several times in SW (page nos in Red Fox pb):
Chapter 1 page 8: “What about the D’s”
Chapter 5 page 58: the Amazons are “all by themselves without even the D’s”
Chapter 11 page 136: “a meal-dial’s even better [than an alarm clock] Wouldn’t Dick have liked it”
Chapter 11 page 134: “the D’s had gone” [when the Walker letter arrived at Beckfoot]
PS: "without EVEN the D's is rather a put-down!
