Funny that you should call the island Mecca. When I travelled there with Fraser (then 12) in 2000 I refered to it as our trip to Mecca. For me it was truely fantastic. Yes you can easily make the trip in the electric motor boats from Coniston and a very pleasant trip it was. If I ever get back there again I'll show up on a day when there is not a regatta using all of the sailboats at the rental shop. Peel is every thing except the camp sight isn't big or flat enough and the landing site must be on that other island. You can look up the lake to Kanchengunga in the NE (from which I actually first spied the island)look west to a reasonable Dixons farm field, just make out the tops of High Greenland etc etc. enjoy it. (and Cynthia, I hope we see the model one day)
