In the days when proper ironmongers existed - and there would certainly have been one in a town serving a farming community such as Rio - there wasn't the slightest difficulty in buying thin copper sheet.

It is only quite recently - maybe 15 years - that it has become so hard to buy anything that isn't in a little polythene bag.
