I have finally scanned and posted on my web page six slides that I took in 1977 during my one and only visit to Peel Island. Though I've returned to the Lakes countless times, this was the only time I actually sailed to "Wildcat Island". These pictures show both the harbour and the camping area between the two "ridges" described in previous posts.

Most interesting (to me anyway) is the memorial tag to Arthur Ransome I found in the side of a tree. I assume it's not there anymore, judging from others' comments -- I'd be surprised if it survived the nearly 30 years since these pictures were taken.

How odd to think that, when I was there, I thought of Swallows and Amazons as being part of a distant past. In fact, these were taken almost as close in time to the publishing of GN, at least, than that time is to the present day.

(The person in the campground site was a friend I have long since lost touch with, alas...)
