I've never heard or read the song before, but I've several times heard radio broadcasts of the Hoffnung prose version - is it on a commercially available record? I think I like the Hoffnung version best because of the brilliant comic timing - in other words, a very slow delivery with l o n g pauses for the audience to laugh and work out what's coming next.
