Clearly the Amazons were able to harass Captain Flint in spite of being based at Beckfoot. Just as clearly, they'd have been much more obtrusive if they'd been on Wild Cat the whole time. We don't know - they might have started camping down there at the start of the holidays, only to have been hauled back in chains due to their refusal to leave him alone. ISTR a passage where (Peggy?) says something about their having tried to show CF they weren't holding his writing a book against him. And while it may have been futile to hope to keep them off the water (just imagine a Nancy Blackett releasing her frustrations while living under the same roof! Mrs. Blackett would have been begging them to go for a sail after the second day at most!), at least when they were based at Beckfoot, and having to show up for at least breakfast and dinner, CF could be reasonably assured of a couple of hours morning and evening when they wouldn't be able to be, um, showing their devotion.
