Missee Lee asked whether Captain Flint rowed FOR Oxford, not whether he rowed AT Oxford. Only 8 + 1 people actualy row for Oxford each year. Plenty row for their colleges - although (at least at Cambridge) you are not going to get cups and mugs for doing that - unless beer mugs afterwards.
However there were and are plenty of amateur rowing clubs and the members compete in regattas which often do have trophies. There was probably one such club on the Lake.
