My recollection from my week in the Lakes in 2000, is that not only does the Black Bull have better food than the Yewdale, it also has the better beer - especially Coniston Bluebird Bitter (which I think won the Best Beer in Britain award that CAMRA gives in the late 1990's.
However, the atmosphere at the Drunken Duck (as well as the Ransome associations - as discussed in Claire Kendall-Price's book) make it my pick.
