Having lately listened to Gabriel Woolf's tapes of BS and WH, on the long drive up to Edinburgh, I have been struck by the willingness of adults to put themselves out to do helpful things for the children. This on its own is evidence that they were polite. And Dick won the heart of Mr Dixon, who never spoke to anyone else.
