John - I see what you mean about a wasted day! Still, well done for keeping your promise. Can't identify the pub - 'Pied Bull' perhaps, in Northgate St? Now that really was a pub once - hot fresh meat pies, ale straight from cask (cellar-cool) - I'm talking 1950s-1960s here. The lawyers and magistrates from the nearby courts used to go there. Now indeed it's nice food, old pub, warmish beer, plus (which you tactfully didn't mention) Spaceraider and fruit machines and alcopops . . Oh dear, you've started me . . . . . .
