I wrote this many years ago, but it distills my idea of the American abroad. It is written in the context of an Australian in London.

Staggered down the hallway for a shower in the morning. My mouth is like a vulture’s crutch and a headache to match. Blonde came out of the shower, just as I reached the door. Well that’s the problem with London hotels, one has to share facilities with anyone, even blonde bombshells. Yuck the bathroom was done in 1950’s blue patterned tiles, did wonders for the headache. Shower was luxurious and warm and cosy. Got dried, dressed and staggered down to the Dining Room. The blonde is sitting in a far seat with a fat man. He was making a positive fashion statement in a plaid shirt and striped pants. Damn that Microsoft quote, it kept popping into my head. The fat man is talking with a loud southern accent. Damned Americans they all look the same to me, blaring and boring. The Blonde turns and smiles. She reminds me of the stories of Compton and the Americans in Scotland during the Thirties and Fifties. I sat on the opposite side of the Dining Room. A red headed waitress asked what I would like for breakfast. Nice Highland accents at last. ‘Bacon and eggs thank you'

Anyway I should not put it here but what the heck we are almost all friends.
