Actually, he might have married Caesar's secretary. But I felt AR was drawn to giving a fair shake to the rebel and underdog- and Boudicca fills the role rather better than Caesar. Beware of analogies, though; they are fragile and break under the slightest examination. That one was purely intended as fun- it certainly doesn't hold up.

Curiously, thinking of AR and his wish to report fairly on the Russian revolution, with the absolute clarity of hindsight it has become clear that Lenin, Stalin and Trotsky were all monsters of cruelty and that the ideals of socialism and communism were betrayed by them from day two, if not day one. But the 'problems of intelligence in a closed society' bedevilled AR as much as it floored entire governments recently over Iraq.
