Through being away last week, I missed the news of the death of the journalist Paul Foot on the 18th July. Paul Foot was an unabashed admirer of AR, and spoke at the 1993 Lit Weekend of the Arthur Ransome Society on the subject of 'AR as Journalist'. Paul's talk was much praised and enjoyed, and people found him friendly and approachable, even those who (like me) profoundly disagreed with Paul's strong left-wing opinions (for which he was famous). Paul Foot wrote the introduction to the 1992 reissue of AR's Six Weeks in Russia and The Truth about Russia. I am sorry to hear of his death.
