The site I've used is Trainline. The station for Coniston area seems to be Windermere. I got a result of a train from Manchester to Windermere on Sunday morning departing Manchester at 920 and arriving 1120. (That's for August 15) A cheap day single is 12 pounds, 55p.
Fair warning- I haven't ridden the route, but am just doing a web search.
