When I read the books when young, it never occurred to me that the Swallows were real people. Then I learned about the Altounyans from Captain Flint's Trunk.
Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would have them to visit, but that happened in 1994, when Brigit and her husband John came to stay overnight, to hear Jill Goulder and me give our talk on our visit to their childhood Summer home in Turkey.
