On the advice of sounder minds I am reposting Peter Roche's resignation letter as the conclusion to this thread

7th May 1998

After many sleepless nights, many hours of discussion, thought and heartache, I have decided to offer my resignation as a Trustee to the Board of The Arthur
Ransome Society Ltd.

There are numerous reasons for this decision, the most important being personal relationships, but equally the possibility of losing the vote on the Resolution, and
what that would do to TARS', also and this may surprise many, the possibility of winning the vote, I think that result could have created even more problems.

My concerns remain, not least the recent passing of internal information to the Press, and there are still many things which, in my opinion, need to be addressed.
Some of the Board's actions have been unlawful, and one day, if those actions are not examined and corrected, they could land the Society in trouble.

I will remain Regional chairman until November and in the next edition of signals there will be a request for nominations to the East Anglian Committee.

I will not be standing for that committee. The Region is desperately in need of new blood and original ideas, and I need to take a few steps back to reassess my
priorities. And gather my thoughts for the future.

I have no intention leaving TARS, but maybe, in a couple of years, if anyone can find a niche for my individualistic skills, I would be happy to be called upon.

I hope and trust that all my efforts have not been in vain and that TARS will emerge, in the long run, a stronger and wiser organisation.

Regards

Peter Roche
Chairman, East Anglia
