In 1999 I set sail in Nancy Blackett with all my hapless family with a complete unknown who claimed to be from the Nancy Blacket Trust. He did use the name I had been given by another complete stranger over the telephone and he appeared to be an unpretentious sailor so I took the chance. Of course I had only come from Canada so it was no big deal!

I also sailed on Windermere at the TARS AGM 2000 with the gloriously named Captain Flint whom I had met for the first time that weekend. He, too, was an unpretentious sailor. There seem to be rather a lot of them associated with TARS.

I thank my stars I took the following advice from Commander Walker on both occasions. 'Grab a chance and you won't be sorry for a might-have-been'
