I did't write out the text of Swallows and Amazons books - the books were in the school library and always available; but "re-illustrated" most of the books and relived them that way. Pencil on any kind of paper and then large sheets of tracing paper and ink. Even made up my own Swallows and Amazons adventures to illustrate.
I got a nice taste of the Adventures last month in Florida - went sailing one day out from Bradenton greeting all the birds perched on the channel markers and then another day in a power boat - ZOOOOOOOM. The Sailing was much, much more satisfying.
