Windermere has a deplorable number of 'Private - No Landing' notices. In fact the Lake Wardens don't even seem to like you anchoring. Also there are the fast outboard runabouts and - worse - the water scooters, although happily these will have their marching orders soon. Which is why for boating in the Lakes I much prefer Coniston, Derwentwater or Ullswater.

The National Trust (of which I am one of 2 million+ members) now owns most of the fells and many other areas including Peel Island (Wild Cat) and do not seem to approve of camping, but this doesn't stop it happening on Peel Island or anywhere else on the fells provided it isn't conspicuous. And there are still vast areas of the outer fells so inconspicuous that - mercifully - you are unlikely to see anybody at all, let alone a Warden.
