I've noticed that books written in English have the titles/ authors' names printed on their spines from top to bottom. That is, when the book is standing on a shelf, one tends to tip one's head to starboard to read what is written on the spine.
However, for books written in French, the opposite tends to be true -one tips one's head to port in order to read what is there as it is written from bottom to top.
Of course, that is for generally skinny books. Thicker books in either language tend to have their titles / authors names written horizontally.
A nefarious French plot?
