From London Heathrow to Hereford (the nearest station to the IAGM) TheTrainline.com indicate the main route as bus (operated by Great Western) to Reading, train from Reading to Newport (Gwent), train from Newport to Hereford. Total journey time between 4 and 4.5 hours depending on time of day.
A return fare of £37.50 APEX should be available (but this is only valid on the train date and time stated on the ticket, it is not flexible), a more flexible 'Saver' return ticket is available at £56.90 or £73.30 depending on time of day.

If you don't fancy the bus element it is possible (by stipulating 'via London') to get a ticket that encompasses the Heathrow Express to Paddington where you change onto Great Western through to Newport and then as above. The total journey time doesn't appear greatly different.
No APEX fare on this route combination but otherwise the fares are roughly similar.

I should mention that times and fares are not available on-line at present, I used dates in February (Friday/Monday) to retrieve the above, but they should be pretty similar the annual rail fare increases have already happened for 2005.
